NEW CANAAN, CT — The most expensive home for sale in New Canaan was once the country house of copper heiress Huguette Clark. The 52-acre estate, redesigned by Delphine and Reed Krakoff, is listed at $25.5 million on Zillow.com, nearly triple the next listing in town.
No. 1 on the list is Clark House, at 104 Dans Highway, asking $25,500,000. Built in 1937 and reminiscent of a French hunting lodge, the 14,266-square-foot house has nine bedrooms, 10 full bathrooms and four half bathrooms. The listing says landscape architect Perry Guillot turned the 51.93 acres into a private park with a great lawn, woodland trails and streams. There's also a walled garden with an entertaining pavilion, a new pool and tennis court, and twin cottages. It has been on Zillow for 476 days.
Just behind it is a gated stone manor at 78 & 92 Pastures Lane, listed at $9,250,000 after a $255,000 price increase on Oct. 12. Built in 1927 and fully renovated as a smart home with all new systems, the 9,573-square-foot house has seven bedrooms, six full bathrooms and two half bathrooms on 5.5 acres. The sale includes a separately deeded 2-acre lot with a guest house. It has been on Zillow for 13 days.
Rounding out the top three is a newly built, gated house at 259 Frogtown Road, listed five days ago at $8,740,000. The 14,216-square-foot home has seven bedrooms, nine full bathrooms and one half bathroom on 2.25 acres, with seven fireplaces, an elevator, lime-washed walls, a pool, a spa, a pool house and a full guest house.
No. 4 is a proposed new home at 190 Brookwood Lane, on just over 3 acres of meadows, woods and streams, at $8,250,000. The 10,495-square-foot plan has six bedrooms, six full bathrooms and two half bathrooms. It has been on Zillow for 131 days.
Closing out the top five is 62 Summersweet Lane, on a private lane shared by only six estates and bordered by 48 acres of reservoir land, at $6,595,000. The 11,211-square-foot house has six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and two half bathrooms on 4.77 acres. Zillow dates it to 2002, while the description says 2004. It has been on Zillow for 402 days.
