For the past ten years, New Canaan Country Clubs and the players in Waveny Park have hosted a platform tennis event which emphasized "Sports for the Entire Family". On Saturday, March 5th, The Field Club and Waveny Park continued the tradition by participating and hosting the all day event. Club organizers, Lucie Duhamel of Waveny and Brad Easterbrook, Field Club Paddle Director, fielded teams which included: Men's and Women's A, B and C Divisions, Mixed Doubles A and B, Mixed Doubles over 50 & 60, Parent/child 12 and under, 12 years of age and under doubles and Men's over 125.
"We were very happy with the outcome of this years event, it is a wonderful way to include the entire family in a day with friends, enjoy fun competition and promote the game of Platform Tennis" said Lucie Duhamel, Coordinator of the event. "We appreciated everyone's enthusiasm and continued support of the tradition".
The tournament, which was played concurrently at the Field Club and Waveny Park consisted of the participants playing two sets of 6 games each with a third set tie breaker if needed. Points were calculated based upon the winning teams scores. The total cumulative points of all of the matches determined the winner of the tournament. This year, The Field Club earned the most points, with an 8 - 5 victory, meaning that they will host the event in 2012.
