NEW CANAAN, CT – March 14, 2013 – Nine-year-old West School student Ashton Woerz is returning to Broadway in ‘Pippin' in the role of Theo.
Ashton made his Broadway debut at seven-years-old in ‘Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.’ Since then, he has performed in the ‘Radio City Christmas Spectacular’ National Tour and Yale Repertory Theatre’s ‘Marie Antoinette.’ He has also been involved in the development of new shows, including ‘Big Fish’ (coming to Broadway this Fall), and My Mom is Trying to Ruin My Life (off-off Broadway). He has enjoyed many Film and TV projects along the way, too.
“I love this show! I’ve been wanting to be a part of Pippin since last March when I first heard it was coming to Broadway,” said Ashton. “Rehearsal is my favorite part of the day. I’m learning how to walk on a ball! There are a lot of really cool circus tricks in the show. It’s Cirque de Solei and Broadway Musical all in one!”
Pippin will start Previews at the Music Box Theatre on March 23, 2013, with it’s official opening set for April 25, 2013.
A New Canaan native, Ashton is the son of New Canaan residents Chrissy and Craig Woerz. Mrs. Woerz says, “I am so proud of Ashton, and the whole family is so excited for the experience. Ashton’s big sister, Whitney, is the one who got Ashton interested in theatre in the first place. So she really loves going to shows and being his number one fan.
Ashton's first show ever was 'The Wizard of Oz' at the New Canaan High School. He was a munchkin. Melody Libonati, New Canaan Performing Arts Conservatory, taught Ashton how to sing an audition song for 'The Wizard of Oz,' and then there was no turning back. Ashton continued under Melody's guidance to the Summer Theatre of New Canaan's production of 'Big River.' It was during 'Big River' that Ashton's personality and love for theatre really blossomed. Melody Libonati has been a huge influence and supporter of Ashton and said "Summer Theatre of New Canaan brings the very best of professional theatre to New Canaan, and we are very proud of Ashton in his new role on Broadway."
