Besides raising two children, Mrs. Caddell spent many years working at the Union Trust Company in New Canaan, and then at the New Canaan Inn. In her leisure time she demolished crosswords and other puzzles, and enjoyed frequent trips to Mohegan Sun Casino, in an often-successful search for a lucky slot machine.
She was a member of Assumption Church in Westport for nearly 20 years, and over her lifetime was able to make many trips back to “the Old Country,” where she enjoyed the view from the hilltop perch of the modest farmhouse where she grew up.

Relatively late in life she won a trip to Las Vegas to compete on a game show. Despite just missing out on the first prize, the three-day stay at the Venetian Hotel remained a fondly-remembered highlight.

She is survived by two children, John M., of Camp Hill, PA; and Maureen, of Framingham, MA; two grandchildren; and three sisters who share her keen intelligence and fiercely independent nature – Sister Catherine McShane DMJ and Sister Teresa McShane DMJ, both living in Los Angeles, California, and Peggy McShane of Slough, England.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 13 at 10 AM in Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Ave., Westport. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk.
