Bear Spotted In New Canaan: Animal Control

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan Animal Control urges residents not to attract bears to their property after one was spotted in town this week.

In a Facebook post, police said animal control received reports of a black bear sighting on North Wilton Road around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Photos of the bear can be seen here.

In light of this sighting, animal control reminds residents bears do not hibernate all winter and will forage for food. They also noted bird feeders and accessible garbage cans will attract bears to a resident's property.

Bear sightings should be reported to New Canaan Animal Control, as well as the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection website.
