New Canaan HS principal Bryan Luizzi has been appointed the town's new schools superintendent.

The New Canaan Public Schools Board of Education has voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Bryan Luizzi as the new schools superintendent.

In the statement, Luizzi said, “I am humbled and honored by the trust the Board of Education and the New Canaan community have shown me by appointing me as the next superintendent of schools. As interim superintendent these past months, it has been inspiring to see the impressive accomplishments of our students and staff throughout the district. Thanks to the commitment of staff, parents, and the community, the New Canaan Public Schools are truly outstanding, and I am eager and excited to continue this great work as the next superintendent of schools.”
Luizzi is an 18-year education veteran who began his teaching career at Newtown High School as an English teacher. He also served as the manager of technology operations for the Newtown school district. He then moved through a number of administrative positions in the Brookfield school system, where he served as the principal of Brookfield High School for five years before his appointment as principal of New Canaan High School.

In this role, he taught classes in School and District Leadership, Curriculum Development and Design, School Climate and Culture, and Educational Policy, among others.
At their March 17 meeting, the Board of Education accepted the Kolek’s resignation and moved “to appoint the Members of the New Canaan Board of Education as the Personnel Search Committee for the position of interim superintendent of schools and/or superintendent of schools.” Board of Ed Chair Hazel Hobbs said, “The board moved expeditiously to fill the permanent position given the educational landscape and the board’s belief that our district will be best served with a superintendent who will stay with us longer-term. We are confident that we have found the best possible candidate.”
With Luizzi’s appointment, the school board will begin the search for a permanent New Canaan High School principal. Luizzi and Director of Human Resources Gary Kass are leading the search process.
