New Canaan Arts Center Announces Call for Artists, Upcoming Programs
Carriage Barn Arts Center invites area artists to submit entries for Art in the Windows 2016 and the community to check out its programs.
NEW CANAAN, CT, April 4, 2016–Carriage Barn Arts Center/New Canaan Society for the Arts, Waveny Park, New Canaan. Art in the Windows 2016 on view: Saturday, May 29 – Sunday, June 12, 2016. Deadline for Artists: Thursday, April 28, 2016, apply online at www.carriagebarn.org. Deadline for Merchants: May 1, 2016, email artinthewindows@carriagebarn.org to participate.
The Carriage Barn Arts Center and New Canaan Society for the Arts in partnership with the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce have opened a call for works for “Art in the Windows 2016” inviting 2D art (prints, paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media, and otherwise) and small 3D sculptures to fill New Canaan storefront windows and walls. Submission fee for Artists: $26/up to 3 entries for members/students; $41/ up to 3 entries for non-members. There is no fee for participating merchants, should work sell on the spot, merchants will transact this cash and carry exchange.
Programming sponsorship and support for Art in the Windows 2016 are provided by Hutchinson Tree Care Specialists, Inc. and Karl Chevrolet.

All displayed works will be for sale with 50% or half of the proceeds (before tax) returning to the artist and 50% or half of the proceeds benefitting the NCSA (New Canaan Society for the Arts). Works must be wired for hanging and may be placed on easels.
Size matters! The majority of works will be placed in storefront window bays (on carpeted shelves and display risers behind glass) or hang on walls throughout the stores. Preference will be given to 2D works that are no larger than 18 x 24 inches, and wired for framing or submitted with an artist's easel, base, or stand. Works larger than 3 x 3 feet will not be considered. Sculpture must be no larger than 2 x 2 feet, and may be accepted but placement is not guaranteed. Any work larger than 18 x 24 inches ranging in size up to 36 x 36 inches (3 x 3 feet) may be accepted, but placement is not guaranteed.

Important Dates: Deadline: Thursday, April 28; Notification: Thursday, May 5; Drop off: (delivery of artwork by the artists to the designated stores): Tuesday, May 24 between 10-5pm and Wednesday, May 25 between 10-5pm.; On view: Saturday, May 29 – Sunday, June 12, 2015; Pick up: Monday, June 13, between 10-5pm (Note: work not picked-up by this designated time will be charged a $20/day storage fee). Caramoor@Waveny is a unique opportunity to discover exceptional artists in the special setting of our charming 19th-century Carriage Barn Arts Center at Waveny Park. The former home to the Waveny Chamber Music Society (WCMS) offers divine acoustics and intimate seating, a perfect environment for cozy chamber listening. Caramoor continues the WCMS legacy by presenting the Aizuri Quartet, our 2015-16 Ernst Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence. The afternoon program includes Beethoven String Quartet Op. 18 No. 6, Shaw Blueprint, and Schumann String Quartet Op. 41 No. 3. An all-audience reception will follow the performance.

--Madera Winds Quartet Chamber Music returns to play at the Carriage Barn Arts Center Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 1pm for a free 1-hour performance of selected classical works. The Madera Winds, established in 2012, include Ralph Kirmser (oboe), Janet Atherton (clarinet) Zachary Glavin (horn), Jan van den Berg (flute), and Rosemary Dellinger (bassoon). All five musicians have extensive experience performing chamber music in Fairfield for over the past 30 years. Free. Register at www.carriagebarn.org.
--Art in Nature Workshop with Kyle Riccoboni, Creative Director of Earth Garden Florist & Nursery will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2016. Using his renowned floral design talents to interpret featured artworks in the 2016 Spectrum / Natural Inspiration exhibit, Kyle will lead the audience through the steps of creating flower arrangements joyfully using scavenged natural materials and fresh flowers. $8 members, $10 non-members (processing fees may apply). --Workshop for Children ages 7-12 during Caffeine & Carburetors, bringing together automotive enthusiasts and their vehicles, Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 8-11am. We will be open and hosting a free children’s workshop during this Caffeine & Carburetors event in Waveny Park. A guest artist will lead visitors in nature-themed crafts made from recycled materials and other fun materials. Free. Register at www.carriagebarn.org.
