Calvin Trent Ranson, 73: Former Owner of New Canaan Car Wash

Ranson died peacefully on Aug. 29.

Calvin Trent Ranson, 73, died peacefully on August 29, 2015 in Smithtown, Ny after a lengthly and courageous battle with dementia. He was a former resident of New Fairfield and Wilton.

Calvin was born in Richmond, VA, April 25, 1942 and was the son on the late William H. Ranson II and Marion Taylor Ranson. He was predeceased by his brother, Norman Ranson.

Calvin grew up in the small Virginia town of Bremo Bluff, located along the James River. As a young man he enjoyed many years of dedicated work as an Eagle Scout.. He graduated

From Fluvanna High School and left his small hometown for Boston, Ma where he attended Harvard College. Soon after college, Calvin began a successful career as a stock broker and financial advisor on Wall Street. He worked for a number of large brokerage houses throughout the years, notably Donaldson, Lufkin Jenrette and LF Rothchild, Unterberg Towbin in New York City. Ending his 30 year career on Wall Street, Calvin decided to purchase the New Canaan Car Wash and Custom Detail Center in New Canaan, Ct during the mid 1980’s. It was here that he was able to combine his love of automobiles with his love of people for the next 18 years.

Calvin was also an active member of the New Canaan Rotary club for 18 years.

Calvin became well known around New Canaan for his friendly and kind personality. He knew everyone and everyone loved him. His infectious laugh and genuine kind heart drew people to him. He was a lifelong dog lover and brought his dogs to the car wash with him everyday. He could often be found walking the dogs on Cross Street as he stopped to greet people with a big smile and stories to tell. He was known to have rescued many dogs from bad situations and if anyone told him of an animal in distress he would always be able to connect them to a source of help. Calvin was an amazing person to know and love. He will be missed by many.

In addition to his wife, Deborah, he is survived by his former wife, Laurel Ranson, his two daughters Sara Ranson and Emily Ranson. He had two step children, Lisa Edson and Evan Edson. Calvin is also survived by his
