Cops Say Bridgeport Man Stole An iPhone In New Canaan

The alleged theft occurred in July of 2017.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 33-year-old Bridgeport man was arrested on burglary and larceny charges in connection with the 2017 theft of an Apple iPhone from a landscaping truck parked at a home on Old Studio Road in New Canaan, according to police.

Jose F. Rivera, of Nichols Street, was apprehended by Ansonia police over the weekend based on New Canaan's warrant for his arrest.

According to New Canaan police, Rivera allegedly broke into the vehicle on July 10 of last year.

"The theft occurred during the day and the suspect was identified after investigating officers reviewed surveillance video from the residence," wrote police in a statement. "It was determined that Rivera was the individual responsible for the theft of the iPhone after he was observed entering a truck of a landscaping company and placing an object into his pocket."

Rivera was charged with fifth-degree larceny and third-degree burglary and was held by New Canaan police in lieu of bail of $20,000. He was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Oct. 29.
