Democrat Meredith Tobitsch Announces Candidacy For 125th House District Seat
The 125th State House District covers portions of New Canaan, Darien and Stamford.
NEW CANAAN, CT — Democrat Meredith Tobitsch last week announced she has filed to seek the 125th House District seat, which represents portions of New Canaan, Darien and North Stamford.
The seat has been held by Republican Tom O'Dea since 2013.
"This is a turning point for our country and our state," said Tobitsch in a news release. "I’m fighting to build a future where we show up for one another and can move forward together. My opponent is on record as being totally in favor of the direction Donald Trump is taking our country. He’s been very clear that they’re on the same team. For the sake of our families—mine and yours—we need new leadership."

Tobitsch has volunteered in New Canaan and was the campaign manager for the Democratic slate in last year's successful municipal election. She lives in town with her husband, Mike, and two young children.
"They are proud to be building their future in the same community where Mike grew up and graduated from New Canaan High School in 2003. Meredith has left her mark on New Canaan, helping raise $900,000 for the new Waveny Playground that will open this Spring," an announcement on her campaign said. "Before starting to raise her daughters, Meredith has advocated for expanded access to clean energy, women’s reproductive freedoms, and stronger schools through Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts."

State Rep. Lucy Dathan (D-142), a fellow New Canaanite, endorsed Tobitsch.
"There’s no one I trust more to be a partner in Hartford than Meredith Tobitsch," Dathan said. "Effectively fighting back against Donald Trump and his MAGA followers in Connecticut isn’t just a matter of words. It requires action and understanding, and an ability to keep us all pulling in the same direction. Meredith brings that and more to the table."
New Canaan Democratic Chair Tim Klimpl also threw support behind Tobitsch.
"Meredith Tobitsch is a natural-born leader who will focus on listening, collaboration, and action. She’s a remarkable asset to our community," he said.
"Rep. O’Dea’s record is clear: he votes with his MAGA colleagues at every opportunity. He chose debt collectors over families in medical crisis, the NRA over school children, Trump’s I.C.E. over our civil liberties, and insurers over kids with special needs," Klimpl added. "These disastrous votes reflect the reality of the situation: Tom O’Dea does not represent the values of our district. Meredith does, and she’s going to Hartford to be the voice we need."
The election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
