Details Emerge on Events Leading Up to New Canaan Standoff

Prosecutors in state Superior Court in Norwalk on Monday unsealed an affidavit detailing the events leading up to the standoff and arrest of a former Weston school bus driver.

According to investigators, 48-year-old Scott DeiCas issued the following threats to Weston officials in the days leading up to his eventual arrest. [Ed. note: Names have been omitted to protect the privacy of those involved]:

• July 29, 2010 at 1:40 p.m.: DeiCas allegedly called the Weston Board of Education Central Office and requested to speak with their Director of Finance. When the receptionist asked DeiCas what the call was in reference to, he told her "[The Director of Finance] is dicking me around."
• At approximately the same time on July 29, DeiCas posted a message on his YouTube channel saying "KILL THE BEAST; I will start with the Weston Connecticut Town Government."
• Later in the day on July 29, an administrative assistant with the Weston Board of Education returned DeiCas' call. The assistant again asked DeiCas what his call was in reference to. In a "shouting manner" DeiCas "have her call me!"
• The administrative assistant used a reverse phone search to trace DeiCas' phone call, shortly thereafter finding his YouTube channel. Another school district employee recognized DeiCas from his YouTube videos as a former Weston school bus driver.
• July 30, 2010: Prosecutors obtained a warrant from Norwalk Superior Court to find out if comments posted on DeiCas' YouTube channel were in fact posted by DeiCas.
• While investigators waited to obtain information on DeiCas Internet address from Google's legal services, the Weston police were contacted once again by the Weston Board of Education. School administrators told police they had received an e-mail from someone who identified themselves as "Death" with a contact e-mail of "Destruction." The e-mail went on to say "Get ready Zionist scum," and included a link to a YouTube video referencing the 2004 "killdozer" incident, in which a Colorado man barricaded himself in a bulldozer and destroyed city hall, the police department and other buildings before taking his own life.
• Police later determined the IP address of the threatening e-mail to be consistent with DeiCas' home address. Further investigation showed DeiCas to own legally registered firearms listed to his father at his address on Ponus Ridge.
• With arrest warrant in hand, a coalition of local police forces begins the ten-hour standoff with Scott DeiCas at Ponus Ridge Road.

DeiCas is currently being held on $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear again in court on August 16. According to investigators with the New Canaan Police Department, DeiCas made threats to New Canaan officials as well. The NCPD and prosecutors both said that the town be filing further charges within the next week.
