Downunder Kayaking and Paddle Board Opens Third Location

Now Offering Water Sport Rentals on Weed Beach in Darien

For Immediate Release

Darien, CT - Downunder has announced the opening of a beachfront operation at Weed Beach in Darien. The Weed Beach center will offer services to residents in Darien as well as other townships. With locations already established in Rowayton and Westport, the business is now the only operation of its kind in Connecticut.

Downunder is an on-water service which offers both retail and rentals of stand up paddle boards (SUPs), sit-on-water kayaks, and all the equipment and fashions that go with the water sports. The organization offers a wide array of programs such as guided tours, SUP yoga, meditation, “Paddle with your Pup,” “College Culture Boot Camp,” “Girls Empowerment Camp,” and various children’s programs to name a few. Corporate and children’s parties are also offered.

Originally hailing from New Zealand, owner Kim Hawkins is approaching her 13th season serving water adventure seekers in the area. “Opening the Weed Beach location was an easy decision for us given the heavy traffic we have been fortunate to experience in Rowayton,” she remarked. “We are so pleased to offer another venue for enjoying the waterfront experience, and to make it possible for people further south to not travel so far.”

The Weed Beach location will be open daily 10-4 through Labor Day, September 4. Beachgoers can simply walk up and rent the equipment. Non-residents need to make a reservation on-line or by calling (203) 956-6217 and pay in advance up until 24 hours before. A beach pass is just $10. Children can paddle with Downunder’s beach staff for half hour intervals --- 9+ years of age on a paddle board or kayak; 3-8 year olds on a board or kayak with a beach staff member. The Weed Beach location also has an 8-person inflatable SUP. It can be rented by the half hour and up to half a day.
