Driver Crashes Van Into Trees, Leaves Scene: New Canaan Police

The crash occurred on Saturday afternoon.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 59-year-old Stamford man was arrested on a charge of evading responsibility Saturday afternoon in New Canaan after he crashed his van into trees and left the scene, according to police.

Officers were called to Ponus Ridge Road near Greenley Road at about 4:15 p.m. on a report of van that had crashed into trees but was unoccupied.

"A subsequent investigation occurred and [Scott J.] Zane (the operator of the van who evaded responsibility by leaving the scene of the crash) was located at Irwin Park," wrote New Canaan police in a statement.

Details of what caused the crash, or how or why he left the scene were not disclosed.

Zane was taken into custody and charged. He was released after posting a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Oct. 10.
