Drunk Driver Falls Asleep During Questioning, Says New Canaan PD

The incident occurred Monday morning on Oenoke Ridge Road.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 30-year-old Pound Ridge, NY man was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after New Canaan police officers found him asleep behind the wheel of his vehicle Monday morning on Oenoke Ridge Road, according to authorities.

The incident began at about 8:45 a.m. when officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Oenoke Ridge Road on a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road "with the operator slumped over possibly sleeping or in need of medical attention."

When officers arrived they found Dylan Rene Declercq asleep behind the wheel of the vehicle, which was running and in drive.

"Officers observed the front right tire of the vehicle was flat and the rim had damage consistent with a vehicle driving with a flat tire for a extended period of time," New Canaan police stated.

While speaking with Declercq, officers detected his speech was slurred and "he would fall asleep while answering the officer's questions."

Declercq failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was taken into custody. Police found an undisclosed amount of cocaine and a straw in his possession, and he was additionally charged with those offenses.

Police said Declercq refused to submit to blood alcohol content testing and was released after posting a $2,500 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on March 7.
