DUI Charge For Woman Who Crashed Vehicle With Child Inside: New Canaan Police

The crash occurred on Friday evening, Sept. 29, at the intersection of Pine and Grove streets in New Canaan.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 44-year-old New Canaan woman was arrested on charges of driving under the influence and risk of injury to a child on Sept. 29 after she was involved in a two-vehicle crash in New Canaan with a child inside the vehicle with her, according to police.

No injuries were reported in the 7:30 p.m. crash, which occurred at the intersection of Pine and Grove streets.

Arrested was Rebecca Ford, of Brookwood Lane, who was released after posting a $2,500 bond.

"Arriving officers upon interviewing Ford the operator of a vehicle in the crash (her vehicle turned right onto Grove Street from Pine Street and struck a vehicle that was on Grove Street, no injuries) had a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the vehicle and she was displaying signs of intoxication," wrote New Canaan police in a statement. "It should be noted that during this [motor vehicle accident] Ford had her child inside the vehicle with her, under the age of 16 years old."

Ford allegedly failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was taken to New Canaan Police Headquarters where she was processed on the above charges.

She is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Oct. 13.
