Eric Woolworth ’80 to Receive Country School’s 2020 Alumni Award

Woolworth will return to campus to discuss highlights of his career in professional basketball and diversity and inclusion initiatives.

New Canaan Country School is pleased to announce that Eric Woolworth ’80 will be presented with the 2020 Alumni Award. Eric is scheduled to return to campus Friday, May 15, to accept the honor and share with students, alumni and guests highlights of his career in professional basketball and as a leader in diversity and inclusion initiatives.

“We look forward to welcoming Eric back to campus to have him share his experience and wisdom with our students,” said Head of School Aaron Cooper. The Alumni Award is presented each year to honor an alumna or alumnus who has had “the courage and confidence to make a positive contribution to the world.”

The 2019-20 Miami Heat season marks Eric’s 25th year with The HEAT Group and 19th at the helm of the organization as President, Business Operations. His primary responsibility consists of directing and overseeing all non-basketball aspects of the organization from Marketing and Community Affairs to Sales and Service, Human Resources, Merchandising, Finance, Event and Arena Operations, and more. Under his guidance, The HEAT was the inaugural winner of the NBA’s 2018 Inclusion Leadership Award for the franchise’s lengthy history and ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Following graduation from New Canaan Country School in 1980, Eric went on to attend The Taft School. He graduated cum laude from both Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law Center and then pursued a successful legal career in Washington, D.C. Eric joined the HEAT as General Counsel in 1995 and then steadily climbed the ranks of The HEAT Group. His business acumen and key role in the development of the AmericanAirlines Arena led to his promotion to President, Business Operations in January of 2001.

New Canaan Country School is a co-ed, independent day school for students in Pre-K (ages 3 & 4) through Grade 9.
