NEW CANAAN, CT — Filling in the Blanks will host its fifth annual Unite to Fight 5K through Waveny Park next month.

The event is scheduled to take place April 2 with check-in beginning at 7:30 a.m. A kids fun run will be held at 8:15 a.m., followed by the 5K run/walk at 8:45 a.m.

According to a news release provided by the nonprofit organization, the race will help raise critical funding to fulfill Filling in the Blanks' mission to fight childhood hunger by providing children in need with weekend meals.

FITB already provides for over 4,900 children at 140 sites throughout Fairfield and Westchester counties. As the organization enters its tenth year, the need for its weekend meal bag program continues to grow, as FITB anticipates 2,000 children being added to its programming by the end of April.

FITB purchases 99 percent of the food for the program, and events such as the 5K are crucial for increased needs in local communities, according to the organization.

This year's lead sponsors, CellMark and Silver Golub & Tieitell, have gone above and beyond to support FITB financially in addition to packing weekend meal bags and organizing employee packing events. With their help, FITB can continue its mission of fighting childhood hunger, according to the organization.

"At CellMark, it's a privilege to continue to support the remarkable work of the Filling in the Blanks team," Division President Joe Hoffman said in a news release. "Their tireless commitment to helping and feeding our local communities is truly an inspiration. They say 'it takes a village,' and there is no better example than this extraordinary group."

"No child should go hungry, and childhood hunger is a problem we can tackle together, which is why we are proud to support Filling in the Blanks and the 2023 Unite to Fight 5k," Silver Golub & Teitell partner Peter Dreyer said in a news release.
