Friday Classes Canceled At New Canaan Public Schools

Icy precipitation could lead to hazardous driving conditions at times on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan Public Schools are closed Friday in light of a winter weather advisory in effect until 7 p.m.

According to the district website, temperatures are "expected to plummet in the late morning, leading to flash icing and freezing rain conditions. Roads, especially side roads, are expected to freeze and become dangerous for travel."

The district also cautioned anyone who must be on the roads Friday to "take extra precautions and be careful."

According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain is expected to transition to freezing rain beginning after 9 a.m. in northern parts of Connecticut and by early to mid-afternoon in southern Connecticut. The freezing rain will change to sleet in the afternoon hours.
