Green Day

How many definitions can you find for "green"?

It was easy being — and seeing — green in New Canaan this week. Photographer Melinda Fager was asked to create a "green gallery," and she found plenty of inspiration and interpretations for the assignment.

From green bagels (obvious) to a crossing guard's neon green gloves (clever) to a stop at the town's compost site (inspired), Fager captured our emerald city.

Joe Lucas has worked at the NC compost site for 17 years. He told Patch composting takes a full year to make the finished product. Temperatures reach 130-140 degrees, killing off all weed seeds and pathogens. Like the song said, it's not easy being green.
