Harriet Schutte: Lifelong New Canaan Resident Who Cherished Cooking Holiday Meals for her Family
The member of the New Canaan VFW Auxiliary died Sept. 22 at age 92.

Harriet Schutte, age 92 a lifelong resident of New Canaan died Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at her home with her loving daughter Janet by her side, who also was her caregiver for over 20 years.
She was born in Stamford, February 28, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Julia Sullivan Weed.

Harriet was the wife of the late George W. Schutte who died in 2010. They had been married for 68 years. She was a member of the New Canaan High School class of 1941 and later graduated from Shorts Secretarial School in Stamford.
She had worked as a secretary for the Atlas Powder Company. Harriet was also a member of the New Canaan VFW Auxiliary, the AARP and had been a Den Mother for the Girl and Boy Scouts. Her most cherished memories were cooking for the family at the Holidays.

Survivors include a son Paul Schutte of Centreville, VA, a daughter Janet Schutte of New Canaan, one sister, Judith Yeo of Groton, CT and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her daughter Valerie Blasius, sisters Eileen Burkhardt and Patricia Greene, and a brother Charles Weed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday September 25, 2015 at 10:30 Am at St Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Rd, Darien, CT. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 PM at Hoyt Funeral Home.
