High Wind Storm Could Cause New Canaan Outback Building to Collapse: Report

The building is apparently in really bad shape.

NEW CANAAN, CT—The building that was once the Outback Teen Center is in such bad shape that a high wind storm or similar event could possibly cause the building to collapse on itself.

The information was revealed at a Board of Selectman meeting Tuesday, according to the New Canaan Advertiser.

First Selectman Robert Mallozzi was against spending $17,500 to design a temporary stabilization for the building. He is in favor of demolishing it.

It would likely cost about $800,000 to fully repair the building, said Superintendent of Buildings Bill Oestmann.

Building construction A.P. Construction said it's willing to work with the town and original design officialsto make recommendations about he building, according to the New Canaanite.

The building was built to design specifications to the best of the company's knowledge, according to a company official.
