A $20,000 grant from the Foundation will support the Horizons at NCCS in-person summer program, which seeks to mitigate the opportunity gap experienced for up to 300 underserved students in kindergarten through grade nine from Stamford and Norwalk each year. The tuition-free summer program provides academic and enrichment programming, including arts, swimming, community and cultural events. This year the program will focus on helping students make up for academic loss as a result of COVID-19, as well as provide social-emotional support. In addition, a $5,000 COVID-19 Resiliency grant from the Foundation will help provide additional transportation, which is required due to health and safety guidelines.
Executive Director, Nancy von Euler said: “We are grateful to Fairfield County’s Community Foundation for their continued partnership, which is allowing Horizons at NCCS to bring our students (many who have been learning virtually all year) back to campus for a summer of healing and growth in the wake of COVID-19.”
