Houses Passes Beer/Wine Vending Machine Bill

Automated beer and wine vending machines may be coming to Connecticut restaurants and bars.

The State House of Representatives passed a bill that could pave the way for automated beer and wine vending machines at bars and restaurants.

The bill now heads to the State Senate for approval, according to the CT Mirror. It would allow restaurants and bars to issue patrons special cards after checking identification.

The cards would be good for 32 ounces of beer or 10 ounces of wine dispensed by a vending machine.

Proponents argue the bill will allow places such as craft breweries to dispense a wide variety of beers at the same time.

Opponents say vending machines could be dangerous due to limited contact with bartenders who serve as gatekeepers.
