Inner-City Foundation Announces Grant Awards
Local Foundation Awards $447,500 to 17 Fairfield County Organizations

BRIDGEPORT, June 20, 2019 — The Inner-City Foundation for Charity & Education announced 17 grant awards today, awarding $447,500 to local Fairfield County programs and organizations.
Grant awardees include organizations and programs providing education and/or social services, including: Kolbe Cathedral High School, Catholic Academy of Bridgeport, Stamford Peace Youth Association, Shelter of the Cross, Family Centers, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Laurel House, LifeBridge Community Services, HSC-Appleby School-Based Health Center, Malta House, Sterling House Community Center, New Covenant Center, Thomas Merton Center, Carver Foundation of Norwalk, Tiny Miracles Foundation, Catholic Charities Morning Glory Kitchen, and the Jewish Home for the Elderly.
Kolbe Cathedral High School receives a grant to provide scholarships/financial aid to deserving, qualified students to insure access to quality education in the City of Bridgeport – Kolbe has a proven track record for both graduation and college acceptance at 100 percent for both. Catholic Academy of Bridgeport receives a grant to provide scholarships for qualifiying students from low-income families, primarily from Bridgeport, to allow them to attend the school and gain access to a high quality Catholic elementary school education. Carver Foundation of Norwalk receives a grant to provide after-school and summer educational programs to disadvantaged Norwalk students to prevent “summer slide” and ensure they are ready for their next grade level in the fall. Stamford Peace Youth Foundation is awarded funding to support basketball and mentoring activities for inner-city kids in Stamford.

Malta House receives funding to support their mission of providing assistance to homeless, pregnant, and parenting mothers of all faiths, helping them in a nurturing home environment with support services and programming which promotes self-sufficiency and a pathway out of poverty. Shelter of the Cross receives funds to support transitional housing and services for older men and women who are homeless or at risk to become homeless. Bridgeport Rescue Mission receives funds to expand their Food Pantry program, Sterling House Community Center receives funding to support the operation of a regional Food Pantry and Resource Center including the Weekend Food Backpack Program, New Covenant Center receives funding to enable it to continue helping very low income individuals and families meet their need for food, nutrition and other basic services in Stamford, Thomas Merton Center receives a grant to support the purchase of fresh produce to be served to the poor in Bridgeport, and Catholic Charities Morning Glory Kitchen receives funding to support the Breakfast Program and Marketplace Pantry in continuing to feed the homeless and disadvantaged.
Laurel House receives funding to expand the reach of the Thinking Well program, taking mental health recovery and skill building services to local communities and reducing barriers to getting help. Family Centers receives a grant to provide more than 1,500 at-risk high school students in Stamford with high-quality, comprehensive, physical, dental and mental health treatment each year. HSC-Appleby School-Based Health Center receives funding to support the provision of school-based mental health services for a middle school in Norwalk. LifeBridge Community Services receives a grant to support Community Closet, a clothing bank which assists financially-challenged households in obtaining free family clothing and infant and school-age supples for their daily survival. Jewish Home for the Elderly receives funding to support elderly adults who are in need of protective shelter related to elder abuse. Tiny Miracles Foundation receives a grant to provide emergency funds for economically distressed families with a premature baby to cover critical needs such as rent, heat, food, utilities, etc. to ensure the preemie will be going into a safe and nurturing home.

The Inner-City Foundation has granted more than $30 million to hundreds of local organizations over their 27 year history in Fairfield County, including programs that provide education and scholarship, adult education, food, shelter, help for addiction, domestic violence and more. The charity’s mission is to provide support to programs and organizations helping the neediest residents of Fairfield County.
