Interested In A Downtown Retail Job? You're Wanted

"Help Wanted" signs seem to be popping up on more stores in downtown New Canaan.

A recent walk through the area turned up three of them on Main and Elm streets (and if you know of others or you're an employer looking for help, tell us in the comments below).

They're looking for help at Garelick & Herbs at 97 Main St.

There's also a "Help Wanted" sign on the door at Subway at 64 Main St. And a similar sign went up Monday on the door of Dunkin Donuts at 88 Elm St.

Why the demand for hiring?

"Everybody's going back to school," said Eligio Martinez, store manager at the doughnut shop.

Martinez said he's been working at Dunkin Donuts for the past four years, and labor gets scarce each year at about this time of year.

Dunkin is looking to hire two employees, he said.

Bob Hojjat, owner of the Subway restaurant in New Canaan, said he hasn't noticed a regular seasonal turnover at this time of year.

His eatery tends to have a rather low turnover all year, he said. He's looking for another worker because an employee quit, he said.
