Intoxicated Parent Tried to Pick Up Student at New Canaan School: PD

Officers found a bottle of liquor in the vehicle and the child wasn't properly restrained, police said.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Police arrested a Norwalk man after he attempted to pick up his child from St. Aloysius School while intoxicated, police said.

Police responded Jan. 11 around 2:50 p.m. and found Paul Sayegh, 45, operating a vehicle with a child not properly secured in a child restraint system, said Lt. Jason Ferraro, police spokesman.

Several pieces of cut wood were in the back seat near the child and there was a bottle of liquor in the center console, Ferraro said.

Officers smelled alcohol on Sayegh and administered field sobriety tests, which he failed. He refused to take a BAC test.

He was charged with risk of injury to a minor and DUI.
