Letter to the Editor:

As we bustle about in the holiday rush and look ahead to the promises of a New Year, we remind ourselves that right in our midst - or very close by - there are challenges and suffering of all kinds. We never take for granted that we are very fortunate and live in a particularly compassionate and giving community, and we have found New Canaan Community Foundation to be at the center of that spirit of philanthropy.

We are reaching out to you with the hope that you will join us in making a gift to NCCF this holiday season.

Last year, donations from community members to the NCCF Annual Appeal enabled NCCF to help support nearly 80 local nonprofits. Through the process of carefully reviewing grant requests and conducting site visits to numerous local organizations over four decades, the Foundation has become uniquely positioned to identify not only the most pressing local needs, but also the relevant local resources to best address those needs — as well as the “gaps” in both services and funding.

With this valuable community-wide viewpoint, the Foundation is well equipped to analyze where
investment dollars and programming will have the most impact locally, while simultaneously
identifying areas of strategic focus such as behavioral health. In the process, NCCF initiatives
mobilize over 170 volunteers each year — plus hundreds more community members through
events and gatherings — all working together to strengthen our local community. This human
connection is invaluable in its own right and reinforces the spirit of philanthropy in us all.
