The candy, party and gifts store says it can no longer operate financially and will shut down on Jan. 28.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Mackenzies, the candy, party and toy store on South Avenue in New Canaan, is set to close its doors in the coming weeks, a victim of high rent and declining business, according to the owners.

The store had served New Canaan since 1980, and its last day will be Jan. 28, a letter posted in the window states.

"Our operating expenses are to high and we can no longer continue financially," the letter reads. "We are devastated by this and want to thank all of our loyal and dedicated customers for their patronage over the years."
