Main Street 'Royalty': Meet Snaffles

"She's my best advertiser" —So says the owner of Handwright Gallery & Framing on Main Street. You can find the 2-year-old Pembroke Welsh corgi at the downtown shop year-round.

Snaffles, like every Pembroke Welsh corgi (and New Canaan doesn't have many, as of last count), descends from a line of dogs favored by Queen Elizabeth II and linked to the royal family.

The 2-year-old's breed officially is herding, but Snaffles herself is an unusual pup who doesn't yap too much in efforts to arrange people or other dogs, says owner Betsy Jesup, who also owns Handwright Gallery & Framing.

"She's exceptional," Jesup said on Thursday morning and she swept some shedded hair from Snaffles' coat with her hand. "She's a real people dog, likes everyone. Babies, adults, it doesn't matter."

That's endeared her to customers at the Main Street shop, where Snaffles is a year-round fixture, Jesup said.
