Mallozzi Questions Proposed Charter Revision Item
Mallozzi questioned whether the first selectman's role on the Board of Finance should change.

NEW CANAAN, CT- First Selectman Rob Mallozzi questioned whether New Canaan should make a charter change that changes his position's role on the Board of Finance.
The Charter Revision Commission voted in favor of changing the first selectman's role so he would continue to serve as an ex-officio member and cast tie-breaking votes when needed, but wouldn't serve as chairman, according to the New Canaanite.
The change would mean that the first selectman wouldn't set the group's agenda. Still, the commission felt the Board of Finance should remain an appointed board and not elected.

Mallozzi said the first selectman's role in its relation to the Board of Finance is unique to New Canaan, but that the current system works.
The town council must still vote on the proposed change before its put before voters on Election Day.
