Man Forged $20,000 Check From New Canaan Business, Cops Say

New Canaan police were notified about the missing check in March.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 65-year-old West Haven man was arrested on larceny and forgery charges on July 21 after New Canaan police said he cashed a forged check for $20,000 drawn from an unnamed New Canaan business.

Hugh R. Jones, of Ownly Avenue, surrendered to police after learning there was a warrant for his arrest. He was charged with second-degree larceny and third-degree forgery.

New Canaan police were notified by the Forest Street company in March that a check was from the business and had been cashed in the above mentioned amount.

An investigation revealed that the check had been cashed at a Bridgeport branch of Chase Bank, allegedly by Jones.

He was released after posting bail and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Aug. 2.
