Multiple Car Break-ins Reported in New Canaan

A common trend is that valuables are being left in unlocked cars.

Police have received several reports recently of thefts from vehicles in town.

Generally the larcenies involve valuables being left in an unlocked vehicle, according to police.

A larceny was reported June 6 on Turtleback Road. A female victim said that her wallet was stolen sometime between June 4 at 3:30 p.m. and June 5 at 5 a.m. from her unlocked vehicle.

Her wallet contained credit cards, a debit card, a driver’s license and $50 in cash. A credit card was used to purchase an item at Best Buy.

A female victim reported that $4 in loose change was stolen from the center console of her unlocked vehicle on Sunrise Avenue on June 6.

She woke-up at 4:15 a.m. and saw a white vehicle with headlights on across the street. The car sped off when she turned her house lights on, she told police. She then heard a vehicle alarm go off down the street.

She reported the incident around 7:30 a.m.

A woman reported that her wallet was stolen out of her vehicle parked in her Oanoke Ridge Road driveway. She reported the larceny to police on June 7. She checked her bank account and saw a charge at Target in Newington.

Police will be looking for surveillance footage from the store.

A woman reported on June 5 that the front-end grill of her 2005 Hyundai Elantra was stolen. She parked the vehicle at the Waveny Care Center on Farm Road between 4:30 and 8 p.m. There was some pre-existing damage to the front of the vehicle.

The grill is valued at around $20.
