NEW CANAAN, CT — The second annual NC Color Drop will be held at Waveny Park in New Canaan on March 26 at 10 a.m.

According to a news release, a Bell407 helicopter, courtesy of HeliNY, will once again fly over New Canaan and hover over Waveny Park, safely releasing close to 2,000 colored golf balls over a designated target.

Event officials noted 100 percent of proceeds will be donated to the New Canaan Scholarship Foundation for need-based scholarships given to New Canaan High School graduates.

Purchasing a ball gives the donor a chance to win a prize and the opportunity to be present at the event. Those who purchased a ball will be allowed to view the NC Color Drop from a safe distance in Waveny.

Golf balls will be available for purchase online beginning March 1 at www.nchs-sf.org/colordrop.

Bill Egan, principal of NCHS and chairman of the NCSF, said he believes the generosity of local sponsors shows the commitment the community has made to making a difference in the lives of students.

"Seeing a rainbow of golf balls raining down on the field last year was a thrill," Egan said in a news release. "Knowing that each bit of color represented a donation to help a student made the NC Color Drop a special way to celebrate NCSF."

The New Canaan Community Foundation has been sponsoring the NCSF since 2017. Lauren Patterson, president of the community foundation, said she is proud to help NCHS seniors pursue their dreams.

"These are collectively our community's kids," Patterson said in a news release, "and we want to help them achieve their educational goals."

Sponsors include New Canaan Community Foundation, Stamford Hospital Foundation, Francos Wine Merchants, Walter Stewart's Market, April & Kelly of William Raveis Real Estate, Silver Hill Hospital, Karl Chevrolet, NC Youth and Family Services, New Canaanite and Source IT.
