NCHS Boys Varsity Squash Plays Darien

The team suffered its first loss of the season.

On Wednesday, January 28, the NCHS Boy’s Varsity A squash team played Darien High School at Chelsea Piers in Stamford.

Missing a player who was out sick, the ladder shifted slightly and the team had their first defeat of the season.

Grayson Bubrosky (#1) played Harrison Gill and in a very close match which included many long rallies, lost 6-11, 11-6, 11-5, 6-11, 10-12.

Hal Holappa (#2), recently returning to play after an injury, played Toby Hansford and was defeated 4-11, 8-11, 5-11.

Christian Megherby (#3) played Connor Wind and lost 2-11, 3-11,8-11.

Kyle Finnican (#4) played Walker Wind and was defeated 9-11, 8-11. 9-11.

Ben Wells (#8) was matched up with Dillon O’Shea and lost 3-11, 3-11, 4-11.

The three wins of the night were Will Gruseke (#5) who was victorious over Alex Cohen, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8. 11-6; Sam Havens (#6) who won 11-9, 11--8. 8-11, 11-6 against Charlie Brooks; and Teddy Holappa (#7) who beat Pablo Castro in five games, 7-11, 8-11, 11-4, 11-3, 11-8.

Next weekend, February 6-8th, the team will travel to the Hartford area for the US High School Team Squash Championships.
