Nearly 200-Year-Old Grave Site Found During Merritt Building Project
The grave site belongs to a prominent New Canaan shoemaker.

NEW CANAAN, CT—The burial site of a prominent New Canaan shoemaker was discovered during an archaeological survey for the Merritt Village complex.
One condition of the proposal's approval was that the survey take place due to the nearby Maple Street Cemetery, which doesn't have recorded graves. A powerful radar system was used to scan the ground
Three grave sites were found, one of which belongs to David Law. His name and date of death were found on a casket. Law died in 1835. At one time New Canaan was known for turning out high-quality shoes.
