New Canaan 6th Grade Boys Rally Back For A Win After A Rough Start

New Canaan trailed by as many as 8 points in the fourth quarter but fought for a victory in the game on December 10.

From The New Canaan Boys Red Team: The New Canaan 6th grade boys red team got their 2016-17 basketball season off to thrilling start on Saturday with a 37-35 win over the Greenwich Flame. Led by Chris McLallen with 17 points, the New Canaan Reds fought back from a late deficit to start the season 1-0.

New Canaan got off to a hot start with crisp passing and a smothering trap defense. The first quarter ended with the team up 9-5. In the second quarter the team hit a bit of a cold spell in the as the shots just wouldn’t fall. Greenwich capitalized on the opportunity and took a 15-9 lead into halftime.

The game see-sawed back and forth in the second half with each team holding its own. In the 4th quarter, however, Greenwich went on a run with three straight baskets and New Canaan trailed by as many as 8 points.

Rather than panic, the New Canaan reds stepped up their defensive intensity and began to lock down the Flame. Slowly but surely the Reds clawed their way back until Bear Morris hit a shot to tie the game at 33 with a 1:12 left to play. Chris McLallen then continued his strong play with a great steal and driving layup and was fouled on the play. Chris made the free throw to convert the three point play to take a 36-33 lead. Travis Sturcke then sealed the win with a steal and basket as the New Canaan 6th grade red team starts the season with a hard fought team win.
