New Canaan 8 Red Basketball Team Splits Season Opening Games

The team opened the season on Dec. 1 and 2.

From New Canaan Basketball Association: NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan 8 Red hoopsters split pair of games to tip off the season.

The 2017-2018 season got off to a solid start for the 8 Red team, as they split 2 games last weekend. After a sluggish start in their opening night game vs. Weston on Friday, Dec. 1, the boys won going away 41-27.

Reed Parmelee drained a pair of 3 pointers in the first half to change the momentum and fire up the New Canaan squad. Mike Sanseverino lead a balanced offensive attack that saw 9 players score with 10 points, while Christopher Bopp added 9. Brooks Robinson, Brendan Tiscornia, and Jack McPhillips led a solid defensive effort that only allowed 12 first half point to the Vikings.

On Saturday, Dec. 2, the team headed on the road to face a solid Stamford JCC team. Once again, they found themselves down early, trailing 11-6 after 1 quarter, and fought back to take the lead on a Milan Ashfar 3 pointer 1 minute into the 4th quarter.

It was back and forth down the stretch from there, as the Rams got clutch efforts from Tiscornia and Jackson Easley. The Stamford squad pulled away though, as New Canaan struggled finding the bottom of the basket. Stamford ultimately secured a 42-36 victory over the Rams.
