New Canaan 8 Red Basketball Team Wins Thriller

The team played the Westport Hawks in Bridgeport.

NEW CANAAN, CT — From New Canaan Basketball Association: The New Canaan 8 Red Rams traveled to Bridgeport this past Sunday for a FCBL tilt against the 5-1 Westport Hawks. In a back and forth affair, The Rams pulled into the lead just before halftime with aggressive defense and some solid drives to the basket.

Reed Parmalee nailed a 3 pointer in the run, and Mike Sanseverino contributed 6 first half points. They Rams extended their lead to 29-23 early in the third quarter on 3 point bombs by Mike O’Dea and Jack McPhillps. Westport would not go away though, tying it at 35 on a 25-foot 3 pointer just before the 3rd quarter buzzer.

The 4th quarter saw 7 different lead changes as both teams made clutch shots down the stretch. With 21 seconds to go and the Rams up 2, Christopher Bopp calmly stepped to the line and made both ends of a 1 and 1 to give the Rams a 4 point lead which they would hold on to, winning by a score of 48-44. Bopp lead all scorers with 13 points along with 12 rebounds, while Sanseverino added 10 points and 8 boards. New Canaan’s defense got big stops late in the game, with key steals made by Brooks Robinson, Brendan Tiscornia, and Milan Ashfar.

The Rams next take to the court with a home game at St. Luke’s this coming Sunday at 4PM
