New Canaan Appoints New Town CFO/Budget Director

NEW CANAAN, CT — A former director of Management and Budget in Norwalk has been hired by New Canaan as the town's new Chief Financial Officer and budget director.

Lunda Asmani, who held the title of New Canaan's budget director since July 2018, replaces Sandra Dennies, who is retiring after almost three years of service with the town, as CFO.

During this past summer, Dennies, Asmani and the Finance Department were recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for their outstanding work on New Canaan's comprehensive annual financial report.

Prior to his work in Norwalk and then New Canaan, Asmani held various municipal finance positions with the towns of Maize, Sedgwick and Newton in Kansas.

A native of Tanzania, Asmani earned his Master of Public Administration degree from Wichita State University in Kansas, and is a Certified Public Finance Officer through GFOA.

"We are very pleased to promote Lunda Asmani to CFO/Budget Director," said New Canaan First Selectman Kevin Moynihan, adding that Dennies, who "performed extraordinary work" for New Canaan will be missed. "Our Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance and our Town Council have all been very impressed with Lunda's work as Budget Director for the past 18 months."
