New Canaan Athlete to Compete for Olympic Gold Medal

He will compete in the finals of his event Friday morning.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL — At least one Connecticut athlete will have an opportunity to win an Olympic gold medal Friday.

Rower Andrew Campbell, Jr. of New Canaan and partner Josh Konieczny of Millbury, Ohio placed second Thursday morning in the semifinals of the men's lightweight double sculls competition. Their time of 6:35.19 placed them 0.76 seconds behind frontrunning France, and 0.51 seconds ahead of third-place Ireland.

The finals will be held Friday morning; viewers may tune into a live feed beginning at 7:30 a.m. at www.nbcolympics.com.
