New Canaan-Based LiveGirl Finds Success With SHE WORKS Program

The program equips diverse young women with career-readiness skills and internships at companies that demonstrate female leadership.

While most other summer internships and opportunities were cancelled due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, LiveGirl launched SHE WORKS to equip diverse young women with career-readiness skills and connect them with internships at companies that demonstrate female leadership.

According to LiveGirl Founder and CEO Sheri West, ”While Internships are an important foundation for one’s career and have been proven to increase a student's chance of getting a job upon graduation, who you know still matters most.” West continued, “SHE WORKS provides the education, tools, mentors, and resources that tomorrow’s leaders need to thrive.”

This year’s cohort includes 35 young women (ages 17-22), including 60% women of color, working with participating companies: 1843 Capital, Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens, Connecticut Institute for Refugees & Immigrants, Hayvn, HTG Investment Advisors, League of Women Voters, Mind Money Media, Refinitiv, Rowan Center, Stamford Museum & Nature Center, STAR Inc., and Women's Business Development Council.

Eileen Kelly, Refinitiv Finance Director shared, “Refinitiv is proud to champion diverse, talented young women through the SHE WORKS Program. The interns have made a positive impact at Refinitiv and our leaders enjoy mentoring the next generation.”

Speaking on the importance of the program, rising college senior Molly Rochlin stated, “My internship at 1843 Capital has given me the opportunity to learn from accomplished female leaders who have worked hard to create their own successes. I will be able to use all of the tools I have learned to push me towards my own success.” Kellie Taylor, a rising college sophomore interning with Mind Money Media Inc., added, “My future is significantly brighter because of SHE WORKS.”
