New Canaan Cautiously Optimistic For 4th Of July Event: Report
Gov. Ned Lamont announced Thursday that Connecticut will begin rolling back coronavirus restrictions this month.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The coronavirus pandemic last year resulted in the cancellation of New Canaan's annual Family Fourth of July celebration, but organizers are optimistic that the town might be able to pull off the event this summer, writes the New Canaan Advertiser.
Gov. Ned Lamont Thursday announced Connecticut will begin rolling back COVID-19 restrictions this month, which opens up the possibility that communities can host annual fireworks extravaganzas this summer.
New Canaan is preparing as if it can host a Fourth of July celebration, which would be held the evening of the 4th, with a rain date of July 5.

The annual New Canaan event draws about 6,000 people at Waveny Park, and by early April, outdoor crowd capacities will be 10,000, which should allow for the celebration.
Plans could change if Connecticut finds itself in a resurgence of the virus, but New Canaan officials are cautiously optimistic the event will happen in 2021.
