New Canaan Considering Increasing Audit Committee Membership
The current set-up has three full-time members plus two alternates.

A possible change to the number of members on the audit committee was mentioned at a town council meeting earlier this month.
There are currently three members plus two alternates, according to the New Canaan Advertiser. One reason for considering an increase to five full members is that under the current set-up if two members were to talk to each other about committee business it would constitute a quorum and technically be a meeting.
If the “meeting” wasn’t properly noticed it could be considered a violation of the Freedom of Information Act. The addition of members would allow two-person working groups.

The town will consult with lawyers and the audit committee itself before an ordinance is officially considered.
