New Canaan Coronavirus Update: Number Of Deaths Reaches 16
The number of coronavirus-related deaths in Fairfield County reached 365 as of Wednesday.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The number of New Canaan residents who have passed away of complications from the new coronavirus (COVID-19) reached 16 as of Wednesday, and the number of confirmed cases now stands at 137, said the town's Director of Emergency Management Mike Handler.
"The town-wide data, while limited in sample size, does support the premise that COVID-19 mortality is felt most by the oldest segment of the population and those with pre-existing medical conditions," Handler said in a statement on the town's website. "Of the 16 fatalities, 14 were over the age of 80 and 2 were in their 60’s. The data also indicates that strict social distancing mandates continue to be extremely effective."
Gov. Ned Lamont said on Wednesday that he is preparing an executive order requiring masks or face coverings in some situations. He intends to release guidance on that later this week.
