New Canaan Country School Welcomes Families for Math Mornings

New Canaan Country School’s Welles Commons was buzzing before school Wednesday morning as Lower School students challenged family members in a fun math competition.

Every day, students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 practice math skills and strategies in interactive, hands-on ways, often through Workplace Station games, as a key component of our Bridges in Mathematics curriculum.

Research-based and funded by the National Science Foundation, Bridges offers a rigorous and comprehensive mathematics program, which is also designed to build confidence in math for all learners. The curriculum focuses on developing students’ deep understanding of mathematical concepts, proficiency with key skills and ability to solve complex and novel problems. The Workplace Stations are one core component of Bridges, and offer students fun and engaging practice of skills essential for their long-term success in math. Though the students have daily opportunities for this type of practice in Bridges Work Stations, it was special for them to share these mathematical games with their family members.
