New Canaan Farmers Market Holds Food Drive for The Open Door Shelter

The event will be held on Oct. 7.

From The Open Door: The New Canaan Farmers Market opens to the public every Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., but on this Saturday there will be a special addition to the market.

The New Canaan Farmers Market will hold a food drive for The Open Door Shelter’s food pantry and kitchen on October 7, and volunteers from The Open Door Shelter will be on-site accepting donations. The pantry serves low-income families and individuals in the community and is open throughout the week.

The farmers market and The Open Door Shelter will be accepting fresh produce and non-perishable food items as well as monetary donations. “The Open Door Shelter is working hard to bring healthy food to those who need it. New Canaan Farmers Market is happy to be a part of this effort,” said Lexi Gazy, Market Master of the New Canaan Farmers Market.

“Our partnership with local farmers markets not only brings fresh food to our shelter and food pantry, but their food drive efforts helps us help families who are hungry,” said Jeannette Archer-Simons, Executive Director of The Open Door Shelter. “We are delighted to partner with longtime supporters like the Gazys and many good people doing good work for the community.”

The New Canaan Farmers Market will be in its regular location at the old Center School parking lot on Maple Street between Main Street and South Avenue, across from the New Canaan Library and runs every Saturday, rain or shine, until December 16. Learn more about the market here.
