New Canaan FC Girls U9 Red Shutout Shelton 3-0
The New Canaan FC Girls U9 Red team extend their win streak with a well-played game against Shelton U9 Orange

The NC Red girls had a chance to play at home this past Sunday against Shelton U9 Orange. Game conditions were quite favorable as the November chill normally experienced this time of year was noticeably absent. The girls were able to launch into opening play with the sun shining and the pitch in good condition – proving no advantage or disadvantage for either side. NC Red held the upper hand in early play but failed to connect for any goals until relatively late in the first half when Madison “Maddy” Hartnett stole the ball from an advancing Shelton forward back on the NC Red side of pitch and marched it single handedly all the way back into Shelton territory where she smashed it past a startled Shelton keeper. Ignited by the goal, the NC Red girls continued the attacks on the Shelton goal. Cecilia Patterson hammered a dexterous left-footed shot into goal a few minutes later on a well-timed pass through traffic from Reese Quinn. Then, just before the half, in a complete reversal of roles, Quinn deftly tapped a shot into the right corner of the goal on a pass from Kallie Patterson. The NC Red girls went into the halftime break up 3-0 on the strong defensive play of the whole team.
The second half was a test of wills as the Shelton Orange girls tried to re-enter the game. Despite the constant barrage of attacks from the NC Red offense, the Shelton team denied all attempts at giving up extra goals. However, Shelton was unable to mount a credible offense leaving NC Red with only one try on goal for the half and a comfortable 3-0 victory for the day.
