New Canaan Food Emporium Being Sold

The emporium is owned by A&P and is part of more than 100 stores that will be sold.

The Food Emporium on Elm Street will be sold to ACME Markets Inc. following the emporium’s parent company, A&P, filing for bankruptcy.

The emporium is part of a sale process of more than 120 stores, according to a full listof affected stores released by Coupons in the News.

A&P announced that it doesn’t expect the move to impact the majority of its customers during the transition.

ACME Markets announced it entered in an agreement to acquire 76 stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. A Greenwich store is also among those being acquired.

A&P is one of the nation’s largest supermarket chains. It owns several stores in Connecticut and fell on hard times in recent years, partly due to increased competition.
