New Canaan GOP Urges 'Yes' on First Selectman Board of Finance Issue

The move has caused controversy with local GOP members.

NEW CANAAN, CT—The local GOP is urging voters to say "yes" to a question on the ballot that would limit the first selectman's powers on the Board of Finance.

Question 3 on the ballot is: "Shall the current Charter be changed so that the First Selectman, although remaining an ex officio member of the Board of Finance, will no longer serve as Chairman o the Board of Finance and the Board of Finance will choose its Chairman from its regular members?"

The RTC is urging voters in town to say yes in order to have separation of powers and give greater independence to Board of Finance appointees, according to the New Canaan Advertiser.
