New Canaan High School Student Artwork Showcased Across CT
Six NCHS students have works on view in Greenwich and Hartford.
From NCHS: Art students at NCHS showcase their hard work and creativity multiple times a year in the school’s lobby gallery, where the Senior Art Show is currently on view. However, this year a handful of students will be exhibiting their art to a wider audience, even after school gets out. From the hundreds of submissions they received, the Bruce Museum in Greenwich and the Connecticut Art Education Association (CAEA) Exhibit in Hartford are including a number of NCHS student artworks to be showcased in year round exhibitions. The NCHS students whose works will be on view throughout the state are sophomore Hannah Suthons, juniors Sharanya Mukherjee, Ann Pakhayev, and Gwenan Walker, and senior Mead Savage. The Bruce Museum will kick off its 8th annual iCreate 2018 exhibition on June 9 where student artwork is on view through August 12. Eleven jurors selected 45 pieces of art out of 600 submissions from 33 New York and Connecticut high schools. The exhibition includes art from NCHS’s Hannah Suthons, Ann Pakhayev, Gwenan Walker, and Mead Savage. On June 7, the museum will hold an opening celebration where seven honorees will be presented with juried awards.
There will also be a People’s Choice Award that will be presented August 5. The CAEA Art Exhibit sponsors its annual student art exhibit at Hartford’s Legislative Office Building featuring art from students all across Connecticut. Legislator’s and their staff from different committees choose pieces to hang in their rooms. This year only 24 works in total were selected. Four of these artworks were by NCHS’s Hannah Suthons and Sharanya Mukherjee, students in Kimanne Core’s Advanced Studio Art class. Chosen student artwork is on view for an entire year in different committee rooms until being returned fully framed along with a letter of appreciation from the legislator. Art pieces from the selected NCHS students will be hung in the Education and Appropriations Committee rooms. This exhibition is designed to celebrate the creativity of students across the state and recognize a surfacing generation of talent.
